Shadow Box Card Tutorial

The following Shadow Box Card Tutorial uses the Spellbinders Tiny Shadow Box die-set by Sharyn Sowell.  When I made this shadow box using these dies, I fell in love with the design.  It was super easy to use and it didn’t require a lot of time to complete.  You simply cut your pieces, glue them in place and your done!

Once I had completed this cute box, I thought that perhaps I could use it on a card.  The design is so pretty that I just had to try!

The Tutorial

Since the card stock that I use measures 8 1/2 by 11, I lay it down horizontally on my paper trimmer and trim it right down the middle.  When you do this, you end up with two pieces that measure 8 1/2 by 5 1/2.  These will make two cards.

Take one piece of card stock, lay it horizontally on your score board and score right down the middle.  This is at the 4 1/4 inch mark.  Fold your card stock and use your bone folder to press on the scoring line for a smooth finish.

Next you’ll trim your designer paper to 4 by 5 1/4 and use your scor-tape to adhere it to your card base.  Once you’ve done this you can apply your trims, flat-back pearls and top flourishes with your hot-glue-gun.

Now you can work on your shadow box using your Spellbinders Tiny Shadow Box die-set.  On a side note: The die-cutting machines that I use are from Spellbinders; and I highly recommend that you get an excellent quality die-cutting machine.  I use the Spellbinders Platinum 6 for my die-cutting and couldn’t be happier with my machine!

When you run your shadow box die through the Platinum 6, not only will it cut out your shape, but it will score along the score-marks as well.  This makes for an easy folding of your shadow box.

Once you have folded along the lines, I recommend that you use your Art Glitter Glue with the fine tip to keep your folds in place.  You then embellish the inside of your shadow box with an array of miniature paper flowers.  Use your hot glue gun or your art glitter glue here.

In addition, you can use the flower dies that are provided in your shadow box die-set, to make the flowers that go on the edge.  A die for the cute banner is provided as well.

Once you are done embellishing your shadow box, apply your shadow box at the center of your card.  Use your hot-glue-gun on this part.
